When the term luxury bedding is mentioned, it’s pretty common that formal linens with embroidery and heavy ornamentation come to mind. Bella Notte, a Novato, California-based manufacturer, is out to change that, one lovely product at a time. The brand makes washable bed linens that carry the unusual juxtaposition of fitting into both luxury and artisanal categories, which you can see in the photos that illustrate this post. They swing so broadly in stylistic tendencies, they are perfect for almost any room, from Boho Chic to Modern Farmhouse, Contemporary to Traditional, or Transitional to Rough Luxe.
Luxury Bedding for Any Style

The company is introducing two new dye colors this fall—Fig and Moonlight. The latter (shown in the two images above, the bottom image features Taline and Lynette 24-inch pillows) is a mid-tone gray created to commemorate Bella Notte’s 25th silver anniversary of creating luxury bedding and linens. It is a reflective tone that varies in luminosity depending upon the absorption of the textile that is dyed.

Fig (shown in the image above) is a drenching purple-garnet tone. The two new hues bring the Bella Notte color palette to a total of 18 hand-mixed dyes. Leeta Steenwyk, Bella Notte’s design director explains the inspiration for the new colors. “Fig is a ripe, juicy, lush purple with reddish undertones,” she says. “It’s a luxurious, rich, confident color for the home. Purple invites creativity and harmony–combining the calmness of blue and the energy of red. I like to build on the new color from the last season and Fig is a vibrant partner to Poppy while sitting comfortably with Moonlight.”

About Moonlight, she notes, “Our longtime collectors have been requesting a mid-tone grey. We thought our 25th Silver Anniversary was the perfect time to introduce this grounded neutral. While certainly deeper than silver, we couldn’t resist a nod to our 25 years of creating luxury for the home. Moonlight sings on its own to create a tranquil story and also offers a calm base for the more spirited colors in our palette. The unexpected charm is how Moonlight glows like a golden moon in our silk charmeuse.”

Also new this fall is Harlow, a collection that includes a coverlet in a quilted cotton velvet that is framed in iridescent classic charmeuse binding. The Harlow throw blanket has two layers of cotton velvet bordered by a one-inch charmeuse raw edge, which gives this blanket comforting substance and an elegant drape. The Harlow sham, accent pillow, and 24-inch square pillow all feature a ribbon of raw edged charmeuse along the gusset that provides structure to these handcrafted accessories. Steenwyk says of the inspiration for Harlow: “This collection conjures up screen stars in their elegant velvets and bias-cut silk gowns from the Golden Age of Hollywood. I have a gorgeous vintage velvet jacket well over 100 years old, which is still wearable. I can feel the history of this piece when I wear it and was inspired to bring that vintage story to a new collection.”

Besides the incredible softness the company achieves in its luxury bedding, we also commend the brand’s focus on sustainability. Bella Notte begins the artisanal dye process by hand-mixing a color palette and then dyeing each small batch of product to order. A commitment to conscious luxury ensures only low-impact dyes are used. The alchemy of working in small batches with a local artisanal dye house results in slight variances in tone, creating one-of-a-kind linens. They have been doing this since 1996 when Bella Notte became the first company to create machine washable couture bedding for everyday living.
